| Salt water,
wind and tidal forces create a very challenging environment
in which technology and materials have to be trusted
to perform reliably.
Midel has been chosen in many marine applications
and has been specified for ships, offshore platforms
and sub-sea transformers. Midel reduces the risk of
fire and minimises any potential harm to sea life.
Renewable energy
For transformers in renewable energy systems such as
wave or tidal energy and offshore windfarms, Midel is
ideally suited both for environmental and reliability
reasons. This is why it has been chosen for the transformer
in the pre-production prototype from Pelamis
Wave Power Ltd, who developed a novel offshore
wave energy converter called Pelamis. Building on technology
developed for the offshore industry, the Pelamis has
a similar output to a modern wind turbine.
Fire safety in the ocean
It is easy to imagine the disastrous consequences of
a fire on a vessel or in any location with limited accessibility
in the middle of the ocean – including oil platforms
and offshore wind turbines. MIDEL 7131 filled transformers
have been specified for the most prestigious cruise
liners worldwide to ensure passenger safety - including
the worlds largest liner, Queen Mary II.
