About MIDEL 7131 Ester-Based Transformer Fluid

Midel is a fire safe, environmentally friendly transformer fluid which is favoured in demanding applications around the globe because of its reliability and high performance.

First introduced in 1978, Midel was specifically formulated to provide a safe replacement for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in distribution transformers. In the last 30 years Midel's reputation has grown at an impressive rate and today the high quality fluid is the primary choice for a much wider range of applications.

Midel conforms to IEC 61099, is classified as a fire resistant K-class fluid and is categorised as non-water hazardous by the German Federal Department of the Environment (UBA, Berlin).

Recently the transformer industry has reported the failure of multiple large units due to the presence of corrosive sulphur. Midel has been tested by independent laboratories to ASTM D1275 B, Standard Test Method for Corrosive Sulphur in Electrical Insulating Oils and IEC 62535, Insulating liquids - Test method for detection of potentially corrosive sulphur in used and unused insulating oil. It was found to be Non-Corrosive.

In addition Midel is RoHS compliant; it does not contain the flame retardants PBB and PBDE, nor is it formulated using lead, cadmium, mercury or hexavalent chromium. The concentrations of these heavy metal contents are all below 1ppm.

Our products are sold through our professional and friendly business development managers who are ably assisted by an excellent customer service team. In addition, working with M&I also affords our customers the benefit of superb quality technical support from a group of multilingual product experts. These specialists include qualified engineers and chemists with first class product applications knowledge.

Commitment to continuous improvement drives our dedication to research and development. Collaborations with institutions such as Manchester University http://www.eee.manchester.ac.uk/research/groups/eeps/research/hvpsp/ in the UK and Schering - Institute of Electric Power Systems http://www.si.uni-hannover.de/ in Germany have helped to expand the knowledge and application of Midel.

Members of our technical team also actively participate in Cigré and IEC working groups. Cigré is the International Council on Large Electric Systems www.cigre-uk.org and as working group members our roles are to provide expertise to help develop and distribute technical knowledge in the field of the generation and transmission of high voltage electricity.

The IEC is the International Electrotechnical Commission http://www.iec.ch/ and our experts meet with the working groups to prepare International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
